Abstract
The city of Kudus, located at the northern tip of Central Java, faces a significant flood risk due to its geographical condition consisting of islands and high rainfall. In 2022, flooding hit several areas in Kudus, including Tanjungkarang village, causing huge losses. One of the proposed solutions to address the flooding problem is through the establishment of sponge villages with the concept of wetland creation. The sponge village is a flood management concept that has been implemented by China, with a land management concept that aims to absorb, store and reuse rainwater flow, so as to reduce the risk of flooding. The bioclimatic approach can be integrated in the development of a sponge village in Kudus. Through this approach, the design and arrangement of the environment in the sponge village can take into account bioclimatic factors by analyzing the surrounding climate and building orientation to maximize the utilization of natural resources and reduce environmental impacts. The necessary steps include identifying flood patterns and identifying strategic areas vulnerable to flooding by taking into account bioclimatic characteristics, land management for the establishment and preservation of wetlands that pay attention to local ecology, and strengthening environmentally friendly infrastructure to support the sponge village concept. The implementation of the sponge village concept with a bioclimatic approach in Tanjungkarang Village is expected to be a structured step in reducing the impact of flooding in Kudus, as well as strengthening the ecological and social resilience of the local community. This is an effort that is in line with the principles of disaster mitigation, sustainable development, and harmonization with nature.
