Abstract

Background: Babies with LBW have a higher risk of death, developmental delays and growth compared to babies born with normal birth weight. In addition, individuals born with LBW tend to be more susceptible to diseases, especially infections and cognitive development disorders. with these conditions, babies are susceptible to stunting. The prevalence of stunting at the Gatak Health Center has increased from the previous year, in 2022 it was 9.7% while in 2023 it increased to 13.07%. Objective: This study aimed to determine the correlation between LBW and the incidence of stunting in toddlers at the Gatak Health Center, Sukoharjo Regency. Methods: This type of research was observational using a Cross-Sectional design. The number of research subjects was 88 toddlers taken by simple random sampling. The data used in this study were secondary data in the form of age, gender, birth weight, birth length and nutritional status of toddlers. Statistical tests used the Chi-Square test with Prevalence Ratio (RP). Results: LBW toddlers who experienced stunting were higher by 72.2% compared to toddlers who were not LBW by 42.2%. Toddlers were at 1.7 times greater risk of experiencing stunting compared to toddlers with normal birth weight (RP 1.7; 95%CI 1,17-2,50). Conclusion: There was a correlation between LBW and stunting. A history of LBW was a risk factor for stunting. Pregnant women should pay more attention to food intake and nutritional status during pregnancy to avoid giving birth to babies with LBW.
