Abstract
This research aims to determine hegemonic masculinity in the film Dear David with Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis used in research by focusing on two stages of significance, namely denotation and connotation, knowing the representation of hegemonic masculinity will determine how forms of communication in society aim or function as control over the course of a value system or social culture. The film Dear David with a high school background offers the complexity of three characters with their own problems, namely Laras, Dila and David who then meet in a chain of victory obtained through a consensus mechanism (consenso) rather than through oppression of other social classes with a masculinity. This research uses a qualitative research method using semiotic theory by Roland Barthes to find out the meaning of signs to find out the role and position of the characters in building the narrative of the story presented. The object of the research is the film Dear David. The research results show that the film Dear David is described as a film that has a narrative of masculinity based on Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis.
