Abstract
Basil leaves or Basil leaves with the genus Ocimum from the Lamiaceae family, species Ocimum basilicum, are plants that are widely available and easily obtained, especially in Indonesia. Basil leaves have many benefits, one of which is as a larvicide. The content of active substances such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and eugenol can provide toxic effects, namely as a contact poison, stomach poison, respiratory poison, and can interfere with the innervation system in larvae. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of giving ethanol extract of basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum) with Tween 80 and PEG 400 diluents on the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae. This study is a type of experimental laboratory using a posttest only control group design by observing or observing the control group and the treatment group. There are 3 control groups consisting of 1 positive control group (abate) and 2 negative control groups (TWEEN and PEG diluents). There were 4 treatment groups, namely TWEEN and PEG diluents plus ethanol extract of water guava leaves with a concentration of 0.5% or 1.5%. Samples of Aedes aegypti larvae used were instar III-IV. Mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae for all 7 groups was recorded every 6 hours for 24 hours. Larval mortality data were analyzed with the Kruskal-Wallis test because they were not normally distributed, but homogeneous. The results of the Kruskal-Wallis test showed a significant difference (sig.p<0.005), so it was continued with the Past-Hoc Mann Whitney test to see more specific differences (effectiveness). Based on the Past-Hoc Mann Whitney test, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum) with TWEEN 80 diluent is not the same as PEG 400 diluent on the mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae. The Mann Whitney Post-Hoc test showed a sig.ρ value <0.05. Ethanol extract of basil leaves (Ocimum basilicum) with TWEEN 80 diluent is better than PEG 400 diluent on mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae.
