Abstract

Every group, community, and even religion has its own unique mark or symbol used to indicate its identity. The presence of symbols is important not only as a distinctive feature but also as a representation of the sacred or holy spirit of the movement. In Islam, for example, there is the phrase t}ayyibah that was taught by the Prophet as a means of drawing closer to and showing devotion to God. However, in recent times, the use of the phrase t}ayyibah, especially takbir, is not limited to reverence alone but has expanded to other areas such as being used as a rallying cry for demonstrations, in courtrooms, and even in holiday celebrations where takbir is combined with disc jockey (DJ) music. This study aims to find an interpretation of the suspected desacralization of the takbir phrase using a qualitative descriptive-analytic method. The research, referring to the Tafsir Al-Mis}bah, shows that uttering takbir inappropriately or without the intention of glorifying the name of Allah falls into the category of desacralization. Although it does not involve mocking, if such behavior continues, it could have serious negative impacts, namely the alienation of humans from their true nature (transcendent beings).
