Abstract

This study aims to explore the appeal of YouTube for adolescents in listening to Islamic preaching and connect it with the Uses and Gratifications theory. Through interviews with several informants, qualitative data was collected to understand the perceptions and experiences of adolescents in using YouTube as a source of Islamic preaching. This research is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach and used purposive sampling in sample selection. The results of the study indicate that adolescents choose YouTube as a medium for preaching for several reasons. Firstly, YouTube can be easily accessed anytime and anywhere, providing flexibility for adolescents to listen to preaching according to their preferences. Additionally, informants stated that YouTube provides detailed and comprehensive explanations of Islamic teachings, unlike other social media platforms that only display fragmented videos. This study provides important insights into the role of YouTube in disseminating Islamic preaching to adolescents. The implications of this research can be used to develop more effective preaching strategies on the YouTube platform by understanding and leveraging the appropriate appeals that meet the needs and preferences of adolescents.
