Abstract
This research explores the trend of using analog cameras amidst advances in digital technology, with a focus on the Surakarta Selenoid Community. In this era, young people find attraction in nostalgia for the 80-90s era through the use of analog cameras, which are seen as a process that can be enjoyed and have unique visual characteristics, such as a retro effect in photos. The identity of the Selenoid Community is formed through interactions between members, community activities, and positive responses from the surrounding environment. Using Communication Theory of Identity (CTI) as a framework, this research identifies layers of identity in the context of the analog camera community. The Personal Layer shows that members feel free to express their interests without fear, while the Enactment Layer highlights the role of community activities in forming identity through regular meetings, hunting, and social activities. The Relational Layer emphasizes the positive response of society to community activities, while the Communal Layer shows the close connection between individual and group identities. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a constructivism paradigm, exploring primary data from interviews with members of the Selenoid Community and secondary data from observations of the Instagram account @selenoidsolo. The use of the Snowball Sampling technique helps obtain research samples. Data analysis involves searching, collecting, reducing, coding, and interpreting. The research results show that the existence of the Selenoid Community is strengthened through social media, especially Instagram, where they can reach a wider audience and get support from their followers. Community responses, especially in the form of likes and comments, reflect the level of knowledge and acceptance of the community's identity. Positive changes in members, such as improved analog photography skills, are the result of participation in the community. The conclusion of this research emphasizes that the Surakarta Selenoid Community has succeeded in maintaining its identity in the face of advances in digital technology. This identity involves personal and communal aspects, strengthening the sense of togetherness and cohesiveness within the community. This research contributes to the understanding of how communication and identity are interrelated in the context of analog camera communities in the digital era.
