Abstract

This research aims to analyze the influence of public knowledge and trust in zakat amil institutions on compliance with paying zakat maal, with a case study of the community in the Kedu Raya area. This research uses a sociological approach and qualitative methods. The sample used in this research was 10 muzaki selected through interviews with several respondents in Purworejo and Kebumen Regencies, who had various types of businesses. The research results show that knowledge about zakat maal, which includes understanding the definition, types of zakat, how to calculate the nisab, as well as the benefits and importance of paying zakat, does not have a significant influence on compliance in paying zakat maal. Apart from that, increasing trust in zakat management institutions also does not directly increase compliance in paying zakat maal. The conclusion of this research is that increasing knowledge about zakat and trust in zakat management institutions alone is not enough to increase community compliance in paying zakat maal. Therefore, it is recommended that zakat institutions regularly hold education and outreach programs, as well as increase transparency and accountability in the management of zakat funds. The trust of the people of Kedu Raya in zakat institutions is an important factor influencing compliance with paying zakat, with transparency and accountability being the main concerns for muzaki in determining their compliance.
