Abstract

Film is a mass media consisting of pieces of images combined, it can take social factors into account, films can also convey the messages contained therein as a visual medium. There are lots of films that deal with social life, one of which is the film "Romantic Problematic". This film raises the topic of toxic relationships. So the problem formulation in this research is "How is the representation of toxic relationships in the film Romantik Problematic?". This research uses descriptive qualitative research with Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, because not all samples met the criteria in this research. The sample used is the Romantic Problematic film scene which shows a toxic relationship. The data taken by researchers is primary data obtained from scenes that show toxic relationships from the film Romantik Problematic. Meanwhile, secondary data was obtained from documentation and observation. The validity of the data in this research uses source triangulation. The data analysis in this research is Roland Barthnes' semiotics with stages: (1) describing the general scene in each selected scene, (2) analysis of the denotational meaning of each scene, (3) analysis of the connotative meaning of each selected scene.(4) ) analysis of myths related to toxic relationship components. The results of this research show that there are 2 (two) categories of representation of toxic relationships in the Romantik Problematic film. First, toxic verbal relationships in the form of suspicion, using a high tone when emotional, putting things down and creating feelings of guilt. Second, non-verbal toxic relationships, namely physical violence and throwing things when angry.
