Abstract
Islamic character education is also part of character education, but the addition of Islamic values is a characteristic that we want to highlight in character education. Hizbul Wathan is a scouting organization under Muhammadiyah. HW has a curriculum and activities designed to instill Islamic character values in its members. Therefore, it is important to analyze the implementation of character education in HW extracurricular activities. The existence of Hizbul Wathan in Muhammadiyah schools will certainly make it easier to instill Islamic and Muhammadiyah values through activities outside class hours. As at Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta Junior High School, there is the Hizbul Wathan (HW) extracurricular. The HW activities at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta have the principles of being interesting, challenging, fun and based on Islamic principles. The aim of this research is to describe the application of Islamic character education itself in Hizbul Wathan extracurricular activities at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta and to determine the inhibiting and supporting factors. This type of research uses field research with a phenomenological approach. The data collection procedures used used observation, interviews and documentation. Meanwhile, data analysis techniques use: data reduction, data presentation, drawing conclusions. Meanwhile, to test the validity of the data, source triangulation and technical triangulation are used. The results of this research indicate that the process of forming Islamic character through Hizbul Wathan activities has gone well. There are three stages carried out in forming Islamic character in Hizbul Wathan activities, namely developing Aqidah and Morals, developing skills, and good ethics.
