Abstract
The Brebes District Sports Complex is an important facility that supports a healthy and active lifestyle for the community. However, in recent years, it has experienced a decline in function, visitors, and aesthetics. The author conducts this design study to identify the factors causing the degradation of the Brebes District Sports Complex and the appropriate design strategies to revitalize it as a public space. The methods used in this report include direct observation of the existing condition of the Brebes District Sports Complex as primary data, in-depth interviews with stakeholders from the Department of Education, Youth, and Sports of Brebes, as well as literature review and comparative studies to broaden understanding and references. The results indicate that the degradation of the Brebes District Sports Complex is caused by a lack of maintenance, an unstructured management system, insufficient oversight and security, and negligence of cleanliness issues. Revitalization through an urban retrofitting approach is the best design strategy to restore this complex as an inclusive and sustainable public space, as well as to regain the vitality and attractiveness of the area.
