Abstract

Altruism behavior is the intention to improve welfare or help others by putting aside self-interest and getting nothing in return. Students are expected to be able to instill altruism behavior in themselves. This study aims to examine the relationship between religiosity and empathy with altruism behavior. This research is Purposive sampling technique involving 307 final year students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta. The sampling technique used was Accidental sampling with the criteria of final year students of the faculties of law, PAI, pharmacy and economic development in 2017-2019. The data analysis used in this study used multiple linear regression and found the results that in the major hypothesis it was proven that there was a significant influence between religiosity and empathy on the altuism variable. As for the minor hypothesis one, it is proven that the religiosity variable with altruism behavior has a significant positive influence. Likewise, minor hypothesis two is also proven that the empathy variable has a significant positive effect on altrusime behavior. Thus it can be concluded that religiosity and empathy have an influence on altruism behavior. The Effective Contribution (SE) of the religiosity variable to altruism is 5.62% and the empathy variable with altruism is 14.92%, meaning that 79.46% is influenced by other variables.
