Abstract

Suicide is an act carried out consciously with the aim of ending life, individuals with the desire and effort to fulfill their desire to die, there are internal and external factors that support the idea of suicide. The aim of this research was to determine the influence of social support and hopelessness on suicidal ideation among students at the Faculty of Psychology, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Sampling in this research used the Purposive Sampling technique. The results of data analysis were obtained using multiple linear regression analysis. Based on the results of the major hypothesis by researchers, there is a positive influence of social support and hopelessness on students' suicidal ideation, obtained an F value of 50.488 and a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The results of the study showed that there was a significant negative relationship between social support and suicidal ideation. It is recommended that schools or universities hold more motivational seminars for teenagers to increase their enthusiasm and optimism.
