Abstract
Background: Hypertension is often referred to as The Silent Killer because this disease often occurs without symptoms. The prevalence of hypertension continues to increase, causing hypertension to become an important health problem in the world. Self care is included in a very important need so that hypertension does not recur, no complications occur or can even recover. However, self care behavior has not been researched much before. Objective: This study aims to examine the relationship of self-care behavior to the incidence of hypertension in productive age in Gajahan Village, Surakarta. Methods: This type of research is observational with a cross sectional approach. The number of samples was 344 respondents. The sampling technique was carried out by quota sampling (neighbourhood unit). The criteria for respondents are productive age aged 20-50 years who live in Gajahan Village. Data collection using a questionnaire that has been tested valid and reliable. data analysis using chi square test. Results: the results showed that there was a significant relationship between self care behavior and the incidence of hypertension in Gajahan Village, Surakarta with p < 0.001. Conclusion: In groups that have good self-care behavior are more likely not to experience hypertension. Health workers can conduct education related to self-care behavior based on self-integration and blood pressure monitoring.
