Abstract

Background: With advances in technology, 3D video game developers have designed fitness game features or also called exergaming. Virtual Reality has several exergaming applications so it can be used to exercise at home. However, the longer virtual reality exposure exposes humans, the greater the postural instability. Postural balance can be measured from the Center of Pressure (COP). The presence of swaying that occurs in the body can be indirectly measured using a force plate by recording changes in COP displacement while using VR. Objective: To find out whether there is a change in the center of pressure displacement when using virtual reality in young adults over a certain period of time. Results: Of the 30 young adult individuals who were sampled, each individual showed different changes in COP displacement when they were playing body and brain in virtual reality and before playing. But all of them showed a change in COP displacement even though they only played VR for 5 minutes. In the first 5 minutes and the third 5 minutes, changes in COP displacement that occurred in each individual showed an increase. The longer the damping occurs in VR, the greater the change in COP displacement that occurs. Apart from being influenced by VR damping, the increase in COP displacement changes is also influenced by cognitive work. Conclusion: the use of VR can worsen the user's postural balance. Thus, caution must be used to develop future guidelines for improving VR safety.
