Abstract
The lecture period is a time when students experience many demands that have an impact on life satisfaction. Life satisfaction in college students plays an important role in their personality and academic development process. Among the many variables that can affect life satisfaction are academic stress and gratitude. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of gratitude and academic stress on student life satisfaction. The major hypothesis of this study is that there is an effect of academic stress and gratitude on life satisfaction. The minor hypothesis of this study (1) gratitude and life satisfaction are positively correlated; (2) academic stress and life satisfaction are negatively correlated. This research is a correlational quantitative research. The selection of psychology students as research subjects was based on the results of the researcher's initial survey which showed that psychology students were dissatisfied with academic life and life in general. Accidental sampling technique was used to select 310 out of 1500 UMS psychology students, starting on February 29, 2024 to March 19, 2024. The life satisfaction scale, academic stress scale, and gratitude scale were incorporated into the data collection method. The data analysis method used is multiple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that the major hypothesis has an F value of 113, 997 with sig. 0.000 <0.05, meaning that there is a very significant influence between gratitude and academic stress on life satisfaction, it can be concluded that the major hypothesis of this study is accepted. The results of the analysis of minor hypothesis I show the correlation value between gratitude and life satisfaction (r) = 13.850 with sig. 0.000 <0.05, meaning that there is a significant positive influence between gratitude and life satisfaction. The results of the analysis of minor hypothesis II also show the correlation value between academic stress and life satisfaction (r) = -3, 443 with sig. 0.001 <0.05, meaning that there is a significant negative influence between academic stress and life satisfaction.
