Abstract
The increase in population in the city of Surakarta has resulted in various problems such as changes in land use from non-built land to built-up land to accommodate residential needs or other supporting facility needs, which in turn, land use change has triggered other problems such as environmental problems, namely increasing temperatures. surface in the city of Surakarta. One step to reduce the problem of rising surface temperatures occurring in the city of Surakarta, can be done by providing green open spaces with good quality vegetation canopy density, because canopies can overcome environmental problems in the form of cooling temperatures and reducing the amount of air pollution. One way to measure canopy density is with remote sensing data. The objectives of this research are 1) Analyze the availability and distribution of green open space in the City of Surakarta; 2) Analyze the correlation value between NDVI values and green open spaces canopy density; 3) Analyze the distribution of canopy density in green open spaces in Surakarta City and its influence on land surface temperature. The Hemispherical Photography method was used to identify the percentage of canopy density using photos in the field which was then carried out with linear regression with NDVI values sourced from Sentiel 2A images to obtain an equation for estimating overall canopy density. The results of this research are that the total area of green open space is 882.67 ha, or 18.89% of the area. This area still does not meet the minimum green open space standards and still requires around 11.11% to meet these standards. The relationship between the percentage of canopy density and the NDVI value is included in the high correlation with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.9026. The canopy density of green open space vegetation is dominated by the low class (<50%) with an area of 373.58 ha each, while the medium canopy density class (50% - 70%) has an area of 270.71 ha, and high density has an area of the smallest is 249.87 ha. Canopy density has been proven to be able to reduce surface temperatures in the city of Surakarta, where areas with high vegetation canopy density tend to have lower surface temperatures than areas with low vegetation canopy density. The results of the correlation test show that the relationship between canopy density and LST is negative, namely -0.847, so the relationship between the two variables is in the same direction. Thus, it can be interpreted that an increase in the percentage of canopy density will be followed by a decrease in the LST value.
