Abstract
Background: Tennis is a sport that requires physical abilities including power, agility, agility and endurance. One of them is the ability to manipulate the feet, 62% of the muscle strength in the lower extremities is very necessary because the very fast movement of the ball must be able to be followed by the athletes in returning or striking an attack against the opponent. Various methods can be used to increase muscle strength, starting from training without weights, training with weights, interval training and with physiotherapy modalities, namely using electrical stimulation. The increase in muscle strength triggered by the addition of electrical stimulation is largely mediated by neural adaptation, so an appropriate dose is needed to get the desired results. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of administering electric currents with different frequencies and combined with strength training on the Quadriceps muscles of field tennis athletes. Research Method: This research used a quasi-experimental approach with a Pretest and Posttest randomize control trial. The respondents in this study were 15 athletes at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta and then divided into 3 groups, 2 treatment groups and 1 control group. Subjects were given a combination of strengthening exercises and NMES frequencies of 60 Hz and 85 Hz for 3 weeks, carried out 2x/week. Results: The average increase in quadriceps muscle strength with a frequency of 60 Hz was 13%, while at 85 Hz the average was 20%. The results of the Parametric T Test showed Pa: 0.004<0.05, for Pb: 0.007<0.05. Conclusion: There was an increase in the quadriceps muscle contraction strength of field tennis athletes after being given a combination of NMES and strengthening training for 3 weeks, significant results were seen in subjects with a frequency of 85 Hz.
