Abstract

Anime cosplay in Indonesia is not just an activity carried out individually, but also involves well-organized communities. However, despite its popularity, anime cosplay activities are also often considered unimportant and are only seen as fun activities that do not have a clear meaning or purpose. Therefore, research regarding the meaning of life of anime cosplayers in Indonesia needs to be carried out to clarify understanding of this phenomenon and open discussion about the importance of this activity for individuals and society. This research uses a qualitative descriptive type to describe social phenomena and realities that exist in society which is the object of research with data collection techniques using interviews and observation. There were a total of 8 respondents interviewed in this research who had roles as cosplayers. Data collection was carried out at various Wibu events in Soloraya. Overall, the research results show that anime cosplay is not just a fun hobby for the respondents, but is also a means to express themselves, create community bonds, and feel close to their favorite anime characters. they love. This is relevant to Frankl's theory, which emphasizes that the meaning of life can be found through the interpretation of life experiences and through goals and motivations that make individuals have appreciation for their lives. In the context of anime cosplay, the meaningfulness of life is reflected in self-expression, identification with characters, and interaction with the community. In this research, anime cosplay is not only seen as a hobby or self-expression, but also as a place for people to find deep meaning through connection. social, community, identity development and the search for happiness through the roles of anime characters presented.
