Abstract

Poverty in Indonesia, especially in Central Java, remains a complex problem that is difficult to fully address. This research aimed to estimate the effect of mean years of schooling and life expectancy on the number of open unemployment, and the effect of the number of open unemployment on the poverty in Central Java from 2011-2022 using a panel data regression with the application of chain rule in differentials. The selected model for this research was the Fixed Effects Model (FEM). The results showed that the mean years of schooling did not affect the number of open unemployment, while life expectancy negatively affected the number of open unemployment. Meanwhile, the number of open unemployment did not affect poverty. Thus, mathematically, mean years of schooling and life expectancy did not affect poverty. Therefore, the chain rule is not proven in this research. Hence, the government needs to provide skill training and job creation. Cross-sectoral measures are also needed to reduce poverty, including access to quality education and better economic opportunities.
