Abstract
Poverty is one of the social challenges affecting all countries worldwide, and economic development plays a crucial role in alleviating poverty. This study aimed to estimate the effect of the number of female workers, women’s mean years of schooling, women’s life expectancy, and the percentage of women as professionals on the poverty rate in Indonesia from 2011 to 2020 using a panel data regression model with the Random Effects Model (REM) approach. Regression results showed that female workers did not affect the poverty rate, while women’s mean years of schooling and life expectancy negatively affected the poverty rate. Additionally, the percentage of women as professional workers had a positive effect on the poverty rate. The government is expected to expand access to education, health, and employment, especially for women. Improving access to education for women, which is currently considered low, is essential for empowering women to produce a better, superior, and high-quality generation. As for health, the government is expected to provide affordable health insurance to maintain public health. Moreover, the government should also provide job opportunities and offer broad opportunities for female workers in various fields.
