Abstract
The City of Surakarta, often known as the City of Solo, is one of the cities in Indonesia renowned for having a considerable number of higher education institutions. As of 2023, Surakarta hosts 71 higher education institutions of various types. Students pursuing education in Surakarta come from various regions across Indonesia. To meet the accommodation needs of out-of-town students, many higher education institutions in Surakarta provide dormitory facilities for students. A good student dormitory not only functions as a place to live but also provides communal facilities designed to support social interactions among its residents. Student dormitories in Surakarta have tried to provide communal facilities to support social interaction; however, the condition and quality of these facilities are sometimes less than comfortable for use. The concept of student dormitories with a co-living design is essentially an architectural typology with a primary focus on fulfilling the residential function and shared activities among residents through spaces that can be used jointly, which is an important aspect of the applied co-living concept. The sharing concept that supports interaction and can build networking among students is very suitable for student dormitories to reduce the sense of loneliness experienced by students due to a lack of interaction with other students. Co-living facilities designed to support social interaction, such as communal spaces and joint activities, provide a conducive environment for building relationships. Thus, the co-living concept can be an effective solution to reduce the level of loneliness among students.
