Abstract

Background: Exercising provides health benefits, but exercising can also pose a risk of injury to the musculoskeletal system. One of the most common sports injuries occurs in the knee. In the rehabilitation process, various types of therapy need to be carried out to obtain maximum rehabilitation quality. The rapid development of technology has produced many portable systems, which are easy to use for rehabilitation, one of which is Microsoft Kinect. Microsoft Kinect can detect movement well which makes it possible to accurately capture body movements so that users can interact with computers and game consoles. Objective: Evaluating the effectiveness of using Microsoft Kinect virtual reality in increasing the walking speed of patients with sports injuries to the knee joint. Method: This research uses a quantitative method with a pre-experimental research type in the form of one group pretest-posttest design. The sampling technique in this research used a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling method. Results: Based on the results of the effectiveness test, a p-value ≤0.001 (p<0.05) was obtained, which means that the use of Microsoft Kinect has a positive impact on the walking speed of patients with knee joint sports injuries. Conclusion: In this study, it was concluded that there was an increase in the walking speed of patients with knee joint sports injuries after administering Microsoft Kinnect which was evaluated using a 10 meter walking test before and after administering Microsoft Kinnect.
