Abstract
Muslim students face a transition period when entering higher education demands. The pressure of lectures and heavy workload increases the risk of academic burnout, which can reduce their performance and productivity. Several factors, such as gratitude and resilience, influence academic burnout. This research intended to explore the influence of gratitude and resilience on academic burnout in Muslim students. The major hypothesis in this research is that gratitude and resilience have an effect on academic burnout in Muslim students. Furthermore, the minor hypothesis of this research is that gratitude has a negative effect on academic burnout in Muslim students, while resilience has a negative effect on academic burnout in Muslim students. This correlational quantitative research included students who are currently studying at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. This research made use of an incidental sampling technique analyzing 200 active students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, specifically Muslim students. The researcher collected the data through a gratitude scale, resilience scale, and academic burnout scale. The data analysis method was carried out using multiple regressions. The results revealed that the major hypothesis is accepted, proven by the very significant influence of gratitude and resilience on academic burnout (F = 101.039; p = 0.000; p < 0.01). There is a very significant negative effect of gratitude on academic burnout (t = -3.565; p = 0.000; p < 0.01). There is a very significant negative effect of resilience on academic burnout (t = -7.373; p = 0.000; p < 0.01). The level of academic burnout among Muslim students is relatively low, gratitude is very high, and resilience is relatively high. The effective contribution of this research is 54,4%, of which resilience is more influential at 40,21%, gratitude is 14,19%, and the other 45,6% is influenced by other variables. The results of this research are that increasing gratitude and resilience can reduce the risk of academic burnout. So there is a need for strong strategies in managing stress and learning to prevent academic burnout and improve student achievement effectively.
