Abstract

Preschool children are children aged between 3-6 years, at this time children are very imaginative and believe that they have power. At preschool age, children develop control of body systems such as independence for going to the toilet, dressing ad eating on their own. Maternal behavior in this case includes the mother’s readiness to train the child to use toilet training. The aim of this research was to determine the ralationship between maternal behavior regarding toilet training and independence in preschool children at Aisyiyah I Gumpang Kartasura Kindergarten. This research is quantitative with a purposive sampling correlational research design. The sample in this study was taken from the total population calculated using the slovin formula with the result being 88 mothers and preschool children. The results showed that the majority of mothers with good behavior resulted in independence as many 58 (65.9%) children and not as independent as many as 7 (8.9%) children, while the majority of mothers with poor behavior resulted in independence as many as 11 (12.5%) children and less independent as many as 12 (13.6%) children. The results of the Spearman Rho test calculations obtained as p value of 0.001 < 0.05, so there is a relationship between mother’s behavior regarding toilet training and the independence of preschool children at Aisyiyah I Gumpang Kartasura Kindergarten
