Abstract

The Bogowonto River is a river that originates from Mount Sumbing, Wonosobo Regency, and flows into the Indian Ocean, with its downstream boundary in Kulon Progo Regency. This river has a length of 67 kilometers with a Watershed Area (DAS) of 585.84 square kilometers. One of the common issues in the Bogowonto Watershed is flooding, which disrupts various community activities and damages infrastructure in flood-prone areas in several districts in Purworejo Regency. This research aims to evaluate the parapet's height concerning the river's discharge capacity in the downstream area of the Bogowonto River and determine the safety value against the forces acting on the parapet structure. This study was conducted by collecting primary and secondary data, which were processed and further analyzed using hydrological modeling techniques with the assistance of the HEC-RAS application. The modeling results and calculations indicate that the water level during the maximum flood discharge with a 10-year return period exceeds the river's natural embankment capacity, with a maximum water height of 1.38 meters. The parapet structure has a height of 1,5-2 meters above the natural embankment surface, indicating that the parapet height is safe against the water level. The parapet structure has good safety values in seepage analysis, with a value of 3.48 > 1.8 (safety factor), and in soil support force stability, with a value of 8.39 > 3.0 (safety factor). However, the safety value in analysis of parapet overturning force is 1.27 < 1.5 (safety factor), and the parapet sliding force is 1.23 <1.5 9 (safety factor), indicating that it does not meet the safety standards for the forces acting on it.
