Abstract

A high relationship satisfaction can promote psychological and physical health. Relationship education programs was showed to be effective to improve relationship satisfaction in couples. Similar programs delivered offline have been implemented in Indonesia with limitations in term of accessibility. Online method on other hand is a practical, flexible, easy-access, and safe alternative to deliver relationship education as a preventive intervention for couples to increase relationship satisfaction. The present study is a meta-analysis examining effectiveness of online relationship education in increasing relationship satisfaction. Systematic literature search was conducted using PubMed, CENTRAL, ScienceDirect, ERIC, PsycInfo, APA Journals, google scholar, and bibliography searches. Twelve literatures reporting six studies and seven effect sizes eligible for review with a total of 2,478 participants met the inclusion criteria. Five out of six trials were conducted in United States and one trial were conducted in Australia. Pooled analysis demonstrates that online relationship education produces modest effect compared to control group (Cohen's d = 0.47, 95% CI [0.13, 0.58]). The overall quality of evidence examined using GRADE was very low.
