Abstract

The Qur'an is the holy book revealed by Allah s.w.t as guidance for humanity. It also serves as a source of knowledge. The depth of knowledge within the Qur'an depends on the level of expertise of the commentator (mufasir). It applies to all interpretations, including the explanation of specific verses (ayat-ayat khasyyah). It is important for a Muslim to possess khasyyah as a means of protection against sin and deviation. Khasyyah is part of the study of Sufism, but of course, there are other perspectives in interpreting khasyyah outside of the Sufi context. Therefore, this research aims to determine the meaning of khasyyah according to the commentary of Ibn Kathir in his book Tafsīr Al-Qur’ān Al-‘Aẓīm. The study employs a literature review with an interpretative approach, using descriptive qualitative analysis as the analytical method. Through the discussion and analysis of Ibn Kathir's interpretation of eight selected verses, it is concluded that, according to Ibn Kathir, the term khasyyah contains two meanings: fear of Allah due to reverence, obedience, and punishment, and fear of other than Allah due to death and poverty.
