Abstract

Means of transportation are something that is closely related to life and never escapes sight. Therefore, it is very important to learn it, especially for children who are starting to enter school. Apart from normal children, the category of children who need more attention is children with special needs (ABK) who are mentally retarded. Mentally retarded children are a group of children whose thinking patterns are not like normal children in general, this category of children tends to be slow and difficult to think. At the Rahmawati Kholid Special School (SLB), learning methods related to transportation equipment currently still use the old method, namely with the help of visual media such as pictures, LKS books and so on. This method does not attract the attention of mentally retarded students, students tend to get bored easily and get fed up with learning. This makes students do things outside of learning, such as disturbing friends, running around, thus creating a teaching and learning atmosphere that is not conducive. Based on the problems that occurred, the author has conducted interviews and discussions with teachers at the school, the result is that this SLB requires an educational game-based application as a companion medium for learning related to transportation. It is hoped that the design of this educational game can create more enjoyable teaching and learning activities as well as foster interest and motivate students to learn. The author used the Construct 2 application to design this game and was guided by the GDLC (Game Development Life Cycle) method in developing the game. The game that has been designed is tested in 2 stages, namely alpha testing using a black box to minimize errors and beta testing using the SUS method. The results of usability testing calculations using the (SUS) method obtained an average score of 84.58 so this application can be classified in the Excellent category and get grade B.
