Abstract

This study aims to compare the value of patriotism in Indonesian and American superhero movies. This study is a comparative study that uses a qualitative approach with a content analysis design. The data obtained from this study is primary data. Observing movies via the Netflix and Disney+ streaming service platforms was the data collection technique. The analysis techniques used in this study are (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, and (3) drawing conclusions/verification. The results of this study show that the similarity in the values of patriotism in Indonesian and American superhero movies is that superhero characters show the importance of love for the country, courage, never giving up, and being woulding to make sacrifices when carrying out missions to save citizens. Meanwhile, the difference in the value of patriotism in Indonesian and American superhero movies is that Indonesian superhero characters show a sense of pride in culture or customs, while American superhero movie characters show pride in national symbols. Indonesian superheroes show patriotism only through actions, while American superheroes show through words and actions. American superhero movies contain false patriotism, namely patriotism that can cause damage to the country and other citizens. This study implies that Indonesian and American superhero movies can be used as media to instill the value of patriotism because they both contain elements of patriotism.
