Abstract
This research aims to analyze the effect of variations in current strength of 45 amperes, 47 amperes and 49 amperes on the process of cutting ST 37 steel metal with a CNC plasma cutting machine. In the research, several tests will be carried out, namely Surface Roughness Testing using the MITUTOYO SJ210 Surface Roughness Tester and Surface Topography Testing using an SEM tool and then comparing the roughness at variations of 45amperes and 49amperes. The method used in this research is experimental. The roughest surface roughness test results were obtained at an electric current variation of 45 amperes with a roughness value of 2.746 μm indicating a roughness class of N8, while the smoothest roughness test results were obtained at an electric current variation of 49 amperes with a roughness value of 1.743 μm indicating a roughness class of N7. Comparative results of roughness testing at variations An electric current of 45 amperes resulted in a roughness value deviation of 6.97%, while a roughness comparison with variations in an electric current of 49 amperes resulted in a roughness value deviation of 6.79%. The results of surface topography testing showed that variations in current strength of 45 amperes had a rougher surface compared to other variations, as evidenced by observing topographic images which can be seen from the results of the color and surface texture, namely the more grooves on the surface.
