Abstract

Introduction: The stunting rate has decreased but has not yet met the national target of 14%. Stunting is still associated with increased rates of morbidity, mortality, motor and cognitive development, obesity, and low productivity and work capacity in the long term. One way to prevent stunting is to provide exclusive breastfeeding because breast milk contains complete nutrients and is absorbed perfectly by the baby. Method: This research was a cross-sectional analytical study where researchers used a questionnaire to obtain data on the history of exclusive breastfeeding and measured height to obtain stunting status for toddlers. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi Square test to determine the correlation between the history of exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers. A sample of 80 toddlers from 6 villages were taken randomly with inclusion criteria, namely toddlers aged 6-12 months, not LBW, not chronically/acutely ill, not born stunted, and not having a history of prematurity. The exclusion criterion was that the respondent changes residence. Results: Data analysis on univariate results found that 26.6% of toddlers experienced stunting and 83.8% received exclusive breast milk. Obtained a significance value for the history of exclusive breastfeeding with the incidence of stunting in toddlers, p value = 0.00. Conclusion: The p value < 0.05 indicated that there was a correlation between the history of exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Public Health Center of Semin 1. Exclusive breastfeeding can reduce the incidence of stunting
