Abstract
Inequality arises due to disparities in social, economic, and cultural status within society. Uneven economic growth in Central Java during 2017-2021 has become a primary trigger for interregional disparities. This study aimed to estimate the effect of the GDP, unemployment, and average minimum wage on inequality measured by the Williamson Index in each Unit of Regional Development (SWP) in Central Java from 2017 to 2021 using a panel data regression with a Random Effects Model (REM) approach. The regression results indicated that both GDP and unemployment had a positive effect on the Williamson Index, while the average minimum wage negatively affected the Williamson Index. To alleviate inequality, the government of Central Java is expected to provide more employment opportunities to decrease the unemployment rate, given the high competition for jobs. Additionally, consideration should be given to increasing the average minimum wage to alleviate income disparities in each region. Therefore, policies supporting increased employment opportunities and minimum wage should be implemented to achieve equitable economic development and reduce inequality in Central Java.
