Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by increased blood glucose levels as a result of abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulin action or both. Diabetes requires long-term treatment and care, which can cause sufferers to experience stress to the point of giving up on treatment. This study aims to analyze the relationship between family support and the quality of life of Diabetes Mellitus sufferers in the Sibela Community Health Center working area. The type of research used is quantitative, analytical observational with a cross sectional approach. The total population of this study was 686 people with a sampling technique using Simple Random Sampling. The total sample that could be interviewed was 196 respondents. The instrument of the family support variable used in this research is the Hensarling Diabetes Family Support Scale (HDFSS) with a validity test value that is obtained a correlation value that is greater than the r-table (0.632) and the significant value is <0.05 while the Cronbach's alpha reliability value is 0.994 > 0.60, and the quality of life variable is WHOQOL-BREF with reliability test results with an internal coefficient value of 11 and a reliability coefficient (Cronbach's Alpha) of 0.941. The results of research using the Chi Square Test which was carried out on the family support variable showed that the P-value = (0.025 > 0.05), which means there is a relationship between family support and the quality of life of Diabetes Mellitus sufferers in the Sibela Health Center working area. Based on these results, it is hoped that families can play a more active role in managing diabetes mellitus, especially in providing emotional support to sufferers such as providing attention and affection to diabetes sufferers.
