Abstract
Lightweight brick is a wall construction material that is lighter than ordinary red brick by adding air bubbles to the mixture. In order to reduce the use of cement, and improve the quality of lightweight bricks, it is necessary to innovate the material by adding fly ash. This research reviews the use of fly ash to replace cement in terms of compressive strength of lightweight brick foam mortar. The research was conducted through mix planning experiments with a ratio of cement and fine aggregate proportions of 1:3 and 1:5, as well as the use of fly ash at 20%, with a plan compressive strength of 2 Mpa. For 14 days, 15 cm x 15 cm x 15 cm specimens were used to test the compressive strength. The results showed that the addition of fly ash increased the flow value, as evidenced by the flow test at a ratio of 1:3 with 0% fly ash the flow value was 180 mm and 20% fly ash the flow value was 190.5 mm. The addition of fly ash can reduce water absorption by 1.48% at 1:3 and 0.45% at 1:5. In this study, it was found that the addition of fly ash decreased the compressive strength value of foam mortar lightweight bricks, as evidenced by the compressive strength value at 1:3 and 0% fly ash of 2.63 MPa. By adding 20% fly ash, the compressive strength value obtained in the ratio of 1:3 amounted to 1.00 MPa in the ratio of 1:5 with 0.53 MPa. The results show that fly ash can reduce the water absorption and compressive strength of lightweight bricks
