Abstract

Women who have high physical activity have a higher risk of developing or developing eating disorders, menstrual cycle irregularities and osteoporosis. Excessive physical activity can cause hypothalamic dysfunction which results in impaired GnRH secretion. Increased physical activity is associated with reduced ovulation events caused by reduced levels of the FSH hormone so that the menstrual cycle lengthens. The main factor causing GnRH suppression in women is excessive energy use that exceeds energy intake in women. Lack of nutrition is a factor causing hypoestrogenic conditions in women. This study aims to determine the correlation between nutritional status and physical activity with the menstrual cycle of adolescent girls at SMAN 1 Pagar Alam. This type of research is quantitative descriptive with a cross sectional approach. Research location at SMAN 1 Pagar Alam. The class X – XI population is 352 people. The sample used in the research was 111 female students using simple random sampling technique. Measuring tools used to measure body weight using digital scales and height using micotoice and nutritional status calculated according to BMI/U using Who Anthroplus, physical activity measured using PAL (Physical Activity Level) by filling in the physical activity recall table questionnaire 24 hours for 7 days and the menstrual cycle is obtained by filling in the menstrual calendar. Data analysis used Univariate Analysis and Bivariate Chi-Square Analysis. The study results based on the characteristics of respondents were dominated by those aged 15-16 years with 65 respondents (59.5%). The age of menarche shows that respondents were dominated by menarche age 12 years as many as 56 respondents. There is a relationship between nutritional status and the menstrual cycle of young women at SMA Negeri 1 Pagar Alam with the chi square value showing a p value (0.042) < 0.05 then respondents are dominated by normal nutritional status with a normal menstrual cycle of 39 respondents 68.4%. There is a relationship between physical activity and the menstrual cycle of adolescent girls at SMA Negeri 1 Pagar Alam with the chi square value obtained with a p value (0.000) < 0.05, the result of the dominance of heavy activity with an abnormal menstrual cycle was 30 respondents, 83.3%.
