Abstract

The existence of covid-19 has caused many tertiary institutions to implement new learning system, namely online learning. Several studies stated that the level of student anxiety when undergoing online learning was moderate and high. For this reason, coping strategy and self-efficacy was needed to reduce the level of anxiety experienced. This study aimed to examine the relationship between coping strategy and self-efficacy on anxiety to the student when learning online. The approach used was quantitative. The subjects in this study were 272 university undergraduate students in Solo Raya. Data collection in this study used a questionnaire distributed via Google form. The author used three measuring instruments, namely the anxiety scale, coping strategy scale, and self-efficacy scale which had been tested for reliability and validity. In taking the sample the author used accidental sampling technique. From the multiple analysis technique, the results obtained a significant p <0.01, which meant that there was a very significant negative relationship between coping strategies and self-efficacy and anxiety, meaning that the higher the level of coping strategy and self-efficacy, the lower the level of anxiety to the student. In this way, the major hypothesis was accepted. The results of the analysis of the 2 variables also show a very significant negative relationship between coping strategy with anxiety and self-efficacy with anxiety, so the minor hypothesis is accepted. The contribution of the coping strategy variable to anxiety is 3.4%, while the self-efficacy variable to anxiety is 2.8%. So coping strategy is more dominant in influencing anxiety than self-efficacy.
