Abstract
The residual stress that occurs during the welding process is due to thermal stress caused by the temperature difference between the parent material and the welding area. Residual stress in welding results occurs because during the thermal cycle the welding takes place around the weld joint with the parent metal where the relative temperature changes so that the temperature distribution is uneven. Alternative heat treatment to improve the desired material characteristics, where the material has gone through a welding process. Annealing heat treatment is an option, which is a heat treatment slightly greater than the steel's critical temperature and then allowed to cool very slowly, increasing ductility and eliminating stress in the material. Welding with ST 37 steel material has a thickness of 10 with an angle of 450. The welding material is heated at The furnace machine reaches a temperature of 800 0C in 60 minutes. Heat treatment was carried out by annealing in a furnace machine with varying times of 30, 60 and 90 minutes. Rockwell hardness testing and SEM microstructure testing were carried out in this research. The results of the research concluded that the 30 minute annealing process material had high hardness because the size of the ferrite and pearlite were very small and the larger the grain size caused the material's hardness to decrease. This is proven by the results of SEM microstructure photos of the larger grains.
