Abstract

This study aims to determine legal protection for victims of personal data abuse using the deepfake technique in terms of the perspective of the 2022 Personal Data Protection Law through normative juridical research methods. The deepfake technique is a real example of Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities. Deepfake is a technique for placing images of "real" people's faces in a video into the target's face so that it appears as if the target is doing or saying things that were done "actually". But in line with the increasing development of technology and information certainly has a positive and negative side in it. On the negative side, deepfakes can be used for purposes such as propaganda, pornography or related data privacy issues. The Indonesian legal system has adopted a European legal instrument in the form of the Right to Be Forgotten (RTBF), which means the right to be forgotten. Legal protection in the form of personal data protection regulations is equivalent to the law which also serves as a guideline for organizations, especially controllers of personal data and processors of personal data and the public to manage their personal data. Indonesia now officially has a Personal Data Protection Law, namely Law No. 27 of 2022 Concerning Personal Data Protection. Protection of personal data is closely related to data security and cybersecurity.
