Abstract
Background: Insomnia is a condition in which a person has difficulty sleeping or sleep disturbances that can affect their daily activities both in quality and quantity. Daily human activities cannot be separated from the game (game). The frequency of playing games too often has a negative effect on playing online games. Long use of gadgets can also cause insomnia. In addition to addiction to online games, the use of social media can also cause insomnia. Research Objectives: To determine the relationship between online game addiction, use of social media, and duration of use of gadgets with the occurrence of insomnia in students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Method : The type of research used is quantitative with a survey approach. All students of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta aged 17-25 years. While the sample in this study was some students of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta aged 17-25 years who were taken using purposive sampling technique (certain criteria) with a total sample of 110. Online game addiction, scale of social media use, use of gadgets, occurrence of insomnia were measured. using a Likert scale. The data obtained were tested using a statistical descriptive test of chi square and fisher's exact correlation test. Results: Descriptive statistical fisher's exact test test obtained online game addiction to the level of insomnia with a p value of 0.0048 < 0.005 that there is a relationship, the use of social media to the level of insomnia with a p value of 0.463 that there is no relationship between the length of use of gadgets on the level of insomnia with p value of 0.4638 < 0.005, duration of use of gadgets on the level of insomnia with a p value of 0.009 that there is a relationship with the level of occurrence of insomnia in students. Conclusion: there is a relationship between online game addiction and the duration of gadget use with the level of insomnia in Muhammadiyah Surakarta University students and there is no relationship between the use of social media and the occurrence of insomnia in Muhammadiyah Surakarta University students.
