Abstract
This research aims to discuss the values of progressive Islamic education in Q.S Al-Alaq verse 1-5 from the perspective of two phenomenal books of interpretation, namely Tafsir Al-Azhar by Prof. Dr. Buya Hamka and Tafsir Al-Misbah by Prof. Dr. M. Quraish Shihab. This research is motivated by five main points. First; weak literacy in the sense that Muslims are less able to apply knowledge, analyze, solve problems in a variety of problems. Second; Lack of appreciation in actualizing transcendence. Third; dichotomy between science and Islam. Fourth, the lack of enthusiasm for writing to produce scientific work, fifth, the decline in moral values. So it is very necessary to review and appreciate the values of progressive Islamic education contained in Q.S Al-Alaq Verses 1-5 by looking at Tafsir Tarbawi. This type of research is library research. This research approach focuses on historical, philosophical approaches and data analysis using content analysis. The results of this research conclude that in increasing the values of progressive Islamic education, there is a need for literacy, integration and transcendence, habitualization and reading and writing so that the relevance of the values of advanced Islamic education in educational institutions such as strengthening literacy in elementary schools, actualizing the integration of science and Islam is found. at Trensains, PMI Dea Malela, and UMS, the habitualization process in schools and Islamic boarding schools and even at universities provides provisions for a learner in strengthening cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills. The results of work in educational institutions have superior value in advancing civilization. The four components above are central and relevant in the world of education, especially Islamic education.
