Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of gas pressure parameters in the ST37 steel cutting process using the plasma cutting method on surface roughness and surface topography. The gas pressure variation parameters used are 4 bars, 4.5 bars and 5 bars. The research process that will be carried out includes several tests, namely surface roughness testing and surface topography testing. Surface roughness testing was carried out using a Mitutoyo SJ-210 Surface Roughness Tester and surface topography using a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The surface roughness test results show that a variation of 4.5 bars produces the smallest roughness value, followed by other variations. The surface topography results show that the 4.5 bars variation has a more even topographic color compared to the 5 bars variation which has a significant color difference. The results show that the 4,5 bars variation has the smoothest surface roughness compared to the other parameters.
