Abstract

The competition among schools for increasing the number of pupils is now increasing, and the reputation of the school si determined by quality extracurricular activities. The public relations of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ngawi has a role in attracting the interest of new students by promoting extra bakat minat programs. The purpose of this research is to analyze how the public relations communication strategy of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Ngawi in an effort to increase the number of students by promoting extra bakat minat programs. This research is a qualitative research with a case study research method and uses the theory of innovation diffusion by Everett M Roger. The results of the study stated that the process of diffusion of innovation in the ekstra bakat minat program also includes four elements in it, namely Innovation, Communication Channels, Time Period and Social System, beside the ekstra bakat minat program is new innovation used by schools to improve student achievement and skills in the non-academic field.
