Abstract

The Qur'an becomes foundation of all human affairs on this earth at all times. This study aims to find out: 1) Hamka and Quraish Shihab's interpretation of the relativity of time, in Al-Hajj verse 47, As-Sajdah verse 5 and Al-Ma'arij verse 4. 2) To know the differences and similarities between the two interpretations. This type of research is library research, with an interpretive and comparative approach (muqarran). The primary data sources used were Buya Hamka's Tafsir Al-Azhar and Quraish Shihab's Al-Misbah interpretation. The secondary data sources used are books, theses, theses, scientific journals or other written works that are relevant and related to this research. The research analysis uses the descriptive comparative method, by comparing the interpretation of Al-Azhar with the interpretation of Al-Misbah in the discussion of time relativity by using the verses concerned with the research theme, so that there are differences or similarities between the two interpretations that the author uses. The results of the study concluded that time is relative with several perspectives as stated in Al-Hajj verse 47, As-Sajdah verse 5 and Al-Ma'arij verse 4, as follows: 1) related to the distance and ability of different creatures to travel -Different according to level of ability. 2) related to the level of ability in completing a work, which will make each actor need time that will not be the same as one another. 3) related to the amount of time itself which cannot be equated from one day to another with a different dimension or event.
