Abstract

The Qur'an is a guideline for life for a Muslim and Muslim woman everywhere, it contains commands and prohibitions to achieve happiness in the world and the hereafter and to get closer to Allah S.W.T, one of the prohibited actions contained in the Qur'an is the act of tabarruj which refers to the act of a woman showing off her jewelery or physical beauty excessively in front of people who are not her mahram. The purpose of this research is to find out Hamka's interpretation of the tabarruj verses in Tafsir Al-Azhar. The type of research used is library-based research, which uses library data in the form of books, journal articles, magazines, encyclopedias, biographies, and others from primary and secondary data sources. The primary source used in this study is the interpretation of Al-Azhar by Buya Hamka, first printing, volumes 6 and 7, Gema Insani publisher, 2015. The secondary source is research on interpretation related to the tabarruj theme from books, journals and other relevant. The data analysis technique used is descriptive analysis. The word tabarruj in the Koran can be found in several verses of them. The word tabarruj (تَبَرُّج) and the word tabarrajna (تَبَرَّ جْنَا) are found in Surah Al Ahzab verse 33, then the word mutabarrijat (متَبَ رجَات) is found in Surah An-Nur verse 60. Based on the discussion and analysis on the interpretation of Hamka in sura Al-Ahzab verse 33 Tabarruj is the act of a woman when leaving the house who deliberately puts on makeup, reveals jewelry in the form of genitalia or jewelry and acts coquettishly to attract the lust of men who are not her mahram. Then in Surah An-Nur verse 60 it is explained that it is permissible for women who are old or menopausal to take off their outer clothing but still have to maintain their authority so that they are respected by younger people, so that they do not lose their pride as parents.
