Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyze the types of expressive illocutionary speech acts used by the characters in My Father's Dragon movie. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects of this research are all the characters in the movie. The object of this study is expressive speech acts. This study uses document analysis techniques in collecting data. The results of the study show that there are 6 types of expressive speech acts in the movie, namely expressing apology (9), expressing condolences (1), expressing greeting (3), expressing praise (8), expressing blame (1), and expressing thanks (9). The most common types of expressive speech acts used by the characters in My Father's Dragon movie are apology (29.03%) and thanks (29.03%). While the context found in the movie can help in understanding the types of expressive illocutionary speech acts so that the utterances conveyed by the characters can be received clearly.
