Abstract

Herda Ivana Rachma. NIM J410211208. Public Health study program. Faculty of Health Sciences. University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta. 2023. Cough waiting rooms are an important component of health services in hospitals, especially for general patients and tuberculosis patients. This space has a crucial role in controlling the spread of infectious diseases. This study aims to analyze the implementation of cough waiting room policies that focus on general patients and tuberculosis patients in hospitals. The research method used is a case study which refers to the actions of informants related to the conditions experienced by interviews. Sampling technique using purposive sampling (Sample Based on Purpose), this technique is carried out by deliberately selecting participants or cases that are considered the most relevant and useful to achieve research objectives and determined by the hospital. The main informants in this study were health workers who were involved or had knowledge of the cough waiting room policy applicable in the hospital, which amounted to one informant each per related unit. Triangulated informants are Tb and non-Tb patients who number two informants each. The results of the analysis showed that in the outpatient room there was no separate waiting room between coughing and non-coughing patients, so it was not in accordance with the advice of the Ministry of Health. Efforts made to minimize tuberculosis transmission with the policy of routine examination schedules for tuberculosis patients have been set on Wednesday at UNS Hospital. Based on the results of the analysis, it is recommended that a special waiting room be provided for cough patients on the second floor of the polyclinic, especially in the internal medicine clinic and the children's clinic, because these two clinics have the potential to cause airborne transmission of the disease.
