Abstract

Consumptive behavior is influenced by several things including self-control and conformity. This research was conducted to examine the relationship between self-control and conformity with the consumptive behavior of students at the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Research This research applies a quantitative approach. The population in this study refers to all students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta who have consumptive behavior, with a total population of 174 students. This research uses consumptive behavior scale instruments, self-control scales, and conformity scales. The measuring instrument is proven to be valid and reliable as a data collection instrument. Participants were determined using the cluster random sampling technique with the criteria of active UMS students class of 2019-2023 Data analysis using multiple regression analysis With R 0.626, F 22.928, and p 0.000 (p 0.05), the findings of this study indicate that the major hypothesis has a significant relationship acceptable. This means that there is a very large relationship between self-control and conformity with consumptive behavior. self-control has a negative effect on consumptive behavior, while conformity has a positive effect. The R square coefficient of 0.211 indicates that the independent variables (self-control and conformity) affect the dependent variable (consumptive behavior) by 22%. In this study, self-control and conformity were found to have a strong correlation with consumptive behavior among UMS students. According to data analysis, the variables of self-control and conformity have a combined effect of 21% on consumptive behavior. In contrast to conformity which has a very significant positive relationship with consumptive behavior of 15.3%, self-control has a very significant negative relationship with 5.7% of consumptive behavior.
