Abstract

Construction projects in Indonesia are currently facing obstacles due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The pandemic has triggered significant changes in the way construction projects are carried out, particularly in foundation work. Mobility constraints, raw material supply disruptions, and health protocols have fundamentally altered the dynamics of project implementation. The changes brought about by the pandemic may have led to an extension in project completion time. This analysis aims to compare the implementation of construction projects during normal times and the pandemic period, specifically focusing on the installation of pile foundations, in terms of productivity, the impact of reduced workforce, and the application of health protocols. The methodology employed involves analyzing data collected using a quantitative approach to compare between normal times and the pandemic period, considering factors such as productivity and completion time. Data collection includes project reports, daily records, and other relevant documentation related to construction project execution during both periods. This data provides further insights into the differences that emerged during the pandemic. Inhibiting factors affecting project implementation during the pandemic include delayed supply, reduced workforce, and adjusted work methods. Solutions that can be adopted by the construction industry to navigate these changes encompass flexible work scheduling, advance material procurement, and the application of communication technologies for remote project coordination. Project implementation productivity at the same depth experienced a decrease during the pandemic. At a depth of 9 meters, equipment productivity decreased by 0.0332 m3/hour/equipment, and at a depth of 7.5 meters, it decreased by 0.087 m3/hour/equipment. However, worker productivity increased due to the reduced workforce, with individual productivity rising. The implementation of health protocols led to a reduction in workforce, necessitating the addition of labor force and increased work intensity to maintain or enhance productivity. This can be achieved through overtime or shift systems while still adhering to health protocols.
