Abstract

Learning is the task of a student in carrying out his lectures, but students often experience obstacles in the learning process, one of which is academic procrastination which is influenced by factors such as self-awareness and parental social support. In this case the researcher conducted a study aiming to determine the relationship between self-awareness and parental social support with academic procrastination in final year students. The research method used is a correlational quantitative approach with a purposive sampling technique with a sample of 170 students studying at the Faculty of Psychology, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The research instrument used was a questionnaire with a scale of self-awareness, parental social support and academic procrastination which was adapted and modified by the researcher. Data analysis in this study used multiple linear regression analysis. With the result that there is a significant relationship between self-awareness and parental social support with academic procrastination of Psychology faculty students, Muhammadiyah University of Surakarata, so the major hypothesis can be accepted with an F result of 156.940 and a significance of 0.000 with a simultaneous correlation of the two variables of 0.653. While the results of the analysis on the first minor hypothesis show a correlation that occurs at -0.765 with a significance of 0.000 which indicates that self-awareness (X1) has a significant negative relationship with student academic procrastination. The results of the second hypothesis analysis have a correlation of -0.766 with a significance of 0.000 which also shows that the variable parental social support (X2) has a partially negative relationship to student academic procrastination.
